1. What is the AD Splicer used for ?

AD Splicer is an AD utility which allows to register an Oracle a new product (off-cycle product) into a base release of Oracle Applications. After this step, the new Oracle product will be recognize as a valid Oracle Application product.

AD Splicer register the new product and creates a new environment setup.

AD Splicer cannot be used for custom or non-Oracle products.

AD Splicer must be run on each APPL_TOP.

2. AD Splicer Control Files

Off-cycle products are generally released as patches. These patches contains:

  • one product configuration file (newprods.txt)  (must be modified)

  • 2 product definition files (mustn't be modified):

                1) <NEW_PROD_ALIAS>prod.txt : contains the definition of the new product

                2) <NEW_PROD_ALIAS>terr.txt : contains the language information for the new product

3. newprods.txt file

The newprods.txt file is the product configuration file and must be modified before runing the AD Splice.

Here are the configuration parameters we have to configure:

Parameter Description

index_tspace The index tablespace for the new product.
temp_tspace The default temporary tablespace for this new product.
default_tspace The default data tablespace for this new product.
sizing_factor The value for the NEXT extend size. A value of 110 means that the next extent will be with 10% bigger.

4. Post Installation Steps
