Run Oracle AutoConfig in Test Mode

1. Why running AutoConfig in Test Mode ?

2. How could I run the AutoConfig in Test Mode ?

3. How could I se the changes the AutoConfig would have made ?

1. Why running AutoConfig in Test Mode ?

When AutoConfig runs, the existing configurations files are overwritten. That may overwrite any customizations you made to the configuration files.

To prevent any unwanted changes, you can run the AutoConfig in test mode to determine the impact of running the AutoConfig without updating the environment files.

2. How could I run the AutoConfig in Test Mode ?

on the Application tier:

$ <AD_TOP>/bin/adchkcfg.sh  (on UNIX)

C:\> <AD_TOP>\bin/adchkcfg.cmd    (on Windows)

on the DB tier:

$ <RDBMS ORACLE_HOME>/appsutil/bin/adchkcfg.sh  (on UNIX)

C:\> <RDBMS ORACLE_HOME>\appsutil\bin\adchkcfg.cmd

NOTE:

You will be prompted for the location of the context files and APPS password.

Here is the information you will see on the screen:

[oracle@APPS bin]$ adchkcfg.sh
Enter the full path to the Applications Context file:
/APPS/visappl/admin/VIS_apps.xml
Enter the APPS user password:
AutoConfig is running in test mode and building diffs...

AutoConfig will consider the custom templates if present.
Using APPL_TOP location : /APPS/visappl
Classpath : /APPS/viscomn/util/java/1.4/j2sdk1.4.2_04/jre/lib/rt.jar:/APPS/viscomn/

util/java/1.4/j2sdk1.4.2_04/lib/dt.jar:

/APPS/viscomn/util/java/1.4/j2sdk1.4.2_04/lib/tools.jar:/APPS/viscomn/java/

appsborg2.zip:/APPS/viscomn/java

Using Context file : /APPS/visappl/admin/VIS_apps/out/03211811/VIS_apps.xml

Context Value Management will now update the test Context file

Context Value Management has found new variables that must be defined to report on the changes that will occur to your current context file

Variable : s_ohs_serveradmin
Details : This parameter sets the e-mail address that the OHS
includes in any error messages it returns to the client.
It may be worth setting up a dedicated address for this purpose.
Enter the Oracle HTTP Server Administrator email address [oracle@localdomain]:

3. How could I see the changes the AutoConfig would have made ?

adchkcfg.sh script generates a report in html and txt format which contains the information you want.

The html format is more used.

on the APPS tier:

<APPL_TOP>/admin/<CONTEXT_NAME>/out/<MMDDhhmm>/cfgcheck.html

on the DB tier:

<RDBMS ORACLE_HOME>/appsutil/out/<CONTEXT_NAME>/<MMDDhhmm>/cfgcheck.html

Here is a part of that Report:

Oracle AutoConfig Report

This report has 4 sections:

Section 1: AutoConfig Context File Changes

Section 2: Changed Configuration Files

Section 3: New Configuration Files

Section 4: Legend

We can click on "Show" for the section 2 and if a file would be modified we can see that in bold characters:

Oracle AutoConfig

In this picture 115.20 is the "Current Version" of the file and 115.18 is "Changed Version". On the right side of the "Changed Version" column is the "View Diff" column which contains links to other html files which show you exactly the difference between the 2 files.
