Here is a demonstration how system can change the sys password :

Note: This may not work on some environments: that depends on the DB configuration.

 

 

SQL> conn system/sys123
Connected.
SQL> col name format a30
SQL> col value format a20
SQL> select name, value from v$parameter where name='remote_login_passwordfile';

NAME VALUE
------------------------------ --------------------
remote_login_passwordfile EXCLUSIVE

SQL> select * from v$version;

BANNER
----------------------------------------------------------------
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Prod
PL/SQL Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
CORE 10.2.0.1.0 Production
TNS for 32-bit Windows: Version 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.1.0 - Production

SQL> show user
USER is "SYSTEM"
SQL> conn sys/xx as sysdba
ERROR:
ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied


Warning: You are no longer connected to ORACLE.
SQL> conn system/sys123
Connected.
SQL> show user
USER is "SYSTEM"
SQL> alter user sys identified by xx;

User altered.

SQL> conn sys/xx as sysdba
Connected.
