1. What is the Oracle Internet Directory ?

The Oracle Internet Directory is a data management mechanism that stores security data ( but is not a security tool). Data is stored in directories. A directory is mainly meant for centralized storage of enterprise-wide information  that's readable very quickly?

2. What is a LDAP ?

A LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) is a standard protocol that facilitates directory access and provides a common language for LDAP clients and servers to communicate. Oracle has his own implementation of this standard.

3. How is the data stored in a LDAP directory ?

LDAP directories stores data in the form of a Directory Information Tree (DIT), which consists of various entries. A DN (Distinguished Name) in a DIT uniquely identifies an entry in a DIT. Attributes are specific information attributes of a DIT entry.

4. Which is the default encryption algorithm in OID ?

MD4

5. Where is OID data stored ?

OID data is tored in Metadata Repository database (in an Oracle database).

6. Which are the main parts of an OID node ?

  • OID Directory Server instance: perform all the work of the OID

  • OID Repository

7. How is the OID managed ?

OID Server instance is managed with OIDCTL utility. OIDMON utility manages the OID Server process and interprets and process OIDCTL commands. For this reason, OID Monitor (oidmon) must be started before oidctl is used.

8. Where can we find the OID related logs ?

$ORACLE_HOME/ldap/log
