1. How must be installed OracleAS Infrastructure and Oracle Middle-Tier?

OracleAS Infrastructure and Oracle Middle-Tier must be installed in 2 different Oracle Homes. 

2. What is an Oracle AS instance?

An Oracle AS instance is a set of processes that operate the various Oracle AS components. There are 2 separate instances: one for the infrastructure and one for the middle-tier.

3. What is the ias_admin user ?

The ias_admin user is the administrative user for OracleAS instances. The username ias_admin is the same for all the OracleAS instances.

4. What is an OracleAS Farm ?

An Oracle AS Farm is a set of instances (one or more) that share a single Oracle AS Metadata Repository. 

5. Is it possible to use a file-base Repository ?

Yes, it's possible, but only for J2EE and Web cache instances.

6. What is an OracleAS Cluster ? 

An OracleAS Cluster is a collection of instances with identical configuration. In order to create a Cluster and to add members to it, the OracleAS instance must be first part of an OracleAS Farm.

9. What is the staticports.ini file used for ?

During the installation you can assign custom ports using the staticports.ini file. The file could be named differently; this is just the standard name used.

10. What is the portlist.ini file used for ?

After the OracleAS is complete, a portlist.ini file is created in $ORACLE_HOME/install directory. This file keeps all the ports assigned during the installation to the Oracle AS components.
